To provide timely medical service to patients in the Valley, Kashmiri American Society of Healthcare, Medical Education and Research (KASHMER), launched their Emergency Medical Service (EMS) project in Srinagar on Thursday.
KASHMER, a New York-based non-profit organisation has tied up with Save Heart Foundation Kashmir and Help Foundation for the project.
The project aims at providing free acute emergency medical transport to the patients in the state.
Two critical care ambulances manned with paramedics and EMT personnel were inaugurated during the event.
These ambulances will be deployed in Srinagar and the Control Room or the central hub will be staffed by junior doctors to provide acute care en route with triage to closest available hospital.
“This is the first of its kind initiative which was our dream project. Many lives are lost due to unavailability of critical care transport services and our aim is to reduce that. A toll free number will be available with a team of professionals who will attend to the patients in need of emergency care," said Dr Nahida Nazir, Chair Health care delivery team.
“This will be totally free and our foundation will bare all the costs,” she said.
The event was attended by many dignitaries including Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education, Omar Javed Shah, Director SKIMS, Principal GMC, Dr Parvaiz Shah, among others.
While speaking on the occasion Dulhoo, who was guest of honor during the event, dwelled upon the importance of such initiatives.
“Such noble initiatives are in itself story of inspiration and it also tells us that civil societies have a lot of scope here in Kashmir. It is time that not only no profit organizations but government should also partner in such initiatives to make them more successful," Dulloo said.
"This initiative tells us how big dreams are converted into realities if one has will power to do so. A small group which started working only few years back from New York has done a commendable job which needs lot of appreciation," he said.
Later during the event ribbon cutting ceremony was held for inauguration of two critical care ambulances in presence of all the dignitaries.
