The newly appointed Director General of Prisons, V K Singh on Monday visited the Central Jail Srinagar to review the security arrangements and to take stock of the reformatory programs running in the jail.
In a statement, the Prisons department, the DG prisons inspected infrastructure and barracks. He interacted with the inmates regarding facilities available to them in the jail. He also visited the jail hospital, carpentry unit, skill training Centre and other sections of the prison and asked the jail superintendent to take measures for the further up gradation of the reformatory programs running in the jail.
The DG prisons also took a Darbar of the prisons staff and listened to their grievances patiently. “He emphasized that prisons is an integral part of criminal justice system as such the staff is required to put in their best efforts to strengthen the security system and play their role in reformation of inmates,” the statement said. He also reviewed the ongoing construction works and urged the concerned to ensure speedy completion of the work.”
The DG was accompanied by deputy inspector general of prisons M S Lone, technical officer Shabir Ahmed, S P North Sajad Ahmed, and SDPO Rainawari Raja Zubair.
