A Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) leader and two party workers were allegedly detained in south Kashmir on Saturday.
JKPM’s party leader in south Kashmir, advocate Farooq Ahmad Ganaie from Duroo Shahabad, and party functionaries, Mohammad Jameel from Kokernag and Javaid Ahmad Khan from Shangus Utersoo, were allegedly detained.
A party official claimed that the trio was called up to police stations and detained.
While talking to Greater Kashmir, JKPM president, Shah Faesal, said that his party men should be released without any delay. “I have told the authorities that they should immediately release them. They should clarify on what grounds have the party men been detained. What crime have they committed?” he said.
He added, “On one side, they (authorities) are saying that it is all rumor mongering, while on the other they are detaining mainstream leaders.”
Earlier in the day, the JKPM president took to social media and said, “…Arrests of mainstream political leaders reflect the state of ongoing emergency around us. JK police should immediately come clear on these unwarranted detentions before it escalates the panic further.”
A police official from south Kashmir told Greater Kashmir that the three party men of JKPM have been taken into preventive custody. “We are identifying mass mobilizers. They have been detained under that category,” he said.
