Bhung cultivation in many areas of Ganderbal district is going on unchecked with locals complaining about the inaction of the government.
According to the locals, Bhung could be seen covering large patches of land in many areas including Bamloora, Duderhama-Saloora, Rampora to Saloora, Wanipora, behind Qamaria park and boys higher secondary school Ganderbal and other areas, adding that itis going on unbridled with law enforcement agencies turning blind eye towards the issue.
The locals said that most of the areas within municipality limits are facing the issue as the authorities are not taking any steps.
Sheikh Junaid, a local resident told Greater Kashmir, “The presence of the bhung crop in these areas is giving easy access to the drug addicts to use it. This is going to affect the youth and the society.”
Social activist Bilal Wani said that at a time when campaign has been initiated to curb the drug menace the authorities should immediately act and start a drive against the cultivation of Bhung in Ganderbal district.
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Ganderbal Abdul Ahad told Greater Kashmir that they will write to excise and police authorities to destroy the Bhung cultivation.
