Traffic jams give tough time to commuters

Commuters had a tough time today due to frequent traffic jams in various areas of the summer capital.
Massive traffic jam was witnessed at MA Road, Residency Road, Jahangir Chowk, Dalgate, Sonwar, Rainawari, Pantha Chowk, Bemina, Batamaloo and other adjacent areas.
The problem was compounded by closing down of traffic light operations at vital junctions.  “It took me around 45 minutes to travel from Dalgate to Regal Chowk. All traffic lights on this route were also closed,” said Ubaid Ahmad, a commuter.
At Rambagh, Hyderpora, Sanat Nagar and other adjacent roads, the traffic moved at snail’s pace. “Traffic jams have become a routine affair. No efforts have been made to regulate vehicular movement,” said Farman Ahmad, a commuter who was travelling to Sanat Nagar from Lal Chowk.
Some of the passengers de-boarded public transport and preferred to complete their journey on foot.  Commuters said that traffic police department must press into service additional number of cops for traffic regulation.
SSP Traffic, Al Tahir Geelani said city markets and other offices reopened after two days in city. “It is one of the reasons that rush of commuters resulted in traffic jams. Police check points were also another reason for traffic jams,” he added.
