SMC carries anti-encroachment drive


Srinagar municipal corporation (SMC) Tuesday conducted anti-encroachment drive to remove street vendors from several areas in the summer capital.
Goods kept on footpaths by some shopkeepers were also seized. During the drive public address system was used to aware general public, especially vendors and shopkeepers about the anti-encroachment laws.
During the drive, several goods were also seized from the street vendors who had occupied footpaths and roadsides. The goods kept by shopkeepers at footpaths were also seized.
SMC’s enforcement squads under the supervision of chief enforcement officer Muhammad Akbar Sofi carried the anti-encroachment drive Hari Singh High Street and its adjacent areas on the directions of SMC commissioner Riyaz Ahmed Wani. During the drive, unauthorized banners were also removed from few places.
SMC media incharge Masrat Yusuf said that authorities intensified anti-encroachment cum awareness drive in city.
She added that ward officer Jawahar Nagar Chaudry Mehraj-din-Buja, enforcement officer south Bashir Ahmed Shaheen and sanitation officer east Fahmeeda actively participated in the drive.
SMC commissioner Riyaz Ahmad Wani said that the drive would continue till all vital roads in city-centre including Lal Chowk, Regal Chowk and Residency Road, Dalgate, Karan Nagar and other areas are cleared from encroachment.
