Rajouri Kadal inhabitants allege ‘excesses’ by Forces

Residents and shopkeepers of Rajouri Kadal area of Downtown Srinagar Friday alleged that government forces damaged household goods and thrashed few shopkeepers without any justification.
A witness said that forces including police and CRPF allegedly damaged goods of a few shopkeepers and also harassed some residents. “The area was witnessing clashes between youth and forces after Friday prayers. But the forces vented their anger on innocent shopkeepers of Rajouri Kadal. They damaged the goods of a few shopkeepers and also harassed the women folk,” the witness alleged.
He said that a few women fainted after government forces fired a few tear gas shells at the protestors, when they were demonstrating against the alleged highhandedness of forces.
Refuting the allegations of damaging goods of some shopkeepers, the CRPF spokesman in Srinagar, Rajesh Yadav, said that forces were dealing with the stone pelters as the area was witnessing clashes after Friday prayers. “Tear smoke ammunition was fired to disperse the protestors. No vandalism has taken place,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the forces action on people.
