Patwaris, revenue officials observe 1-day token strike


Hundreds of revenue officials Tuesday staged a protest demonstration at Press Enclave here, demanding withdrawal of an FIR registered against revenue officials of Tangmarg.
Protestors including tehsildars, naib tehsildars and patwaris assembled at Press Enclave under the banner ‘J&K Patwar Association’ and J&K Revenue Association’. 
They raised pro-justice slogans. The two associations had also called for token strike today which affected the work in the revenue offices.
Provincial president Kashmir J&K Patwar Association Peerzada Fayaz Ahmad Baba said that police has registered a case against tehsildar, naib tehsildar and patwari Tangmarg.
“All these officials had gone to a spot to remove encroachment during the day three days ago. Due process of law was followed in this course of action,” he said.
He that in the evening on the same day, one of the members of a family who had allegedly encroached upon government land had complained of health issue and “she was rushed to hospital where she breathed her last”.
“The family approached police station Kunzar and police has lodged FIR against revenue officials for the death of this lady. All revenue officials have discharged their duties under good faith during the day and removed the encroachment. The death of the lady occurred in the late evening. How these two incidents are related?” he said.
Later, the joint delegation of J&K Patwar Association and J&K Revenue Association called on divisional commissioner Kashmir and apprised him about the matter.
Baba said that divisional commissioner has spoken to inspector general of police about this matter. “The divisional commissioner assured that FIR would be withdrawn and concerned SHO would be asked to explain his position,” Baba said.
“We have deferred the strike and protests for next three days on the assurance issued by divisional commissioner,” he added.
SHO police station Kunzar Basharat Ahmad refused to comment on the matter, saying: “I am not authorized to speak to media. You please talk to SSP.”
SSP Baramulla remained unavailable for comment as he didn’t pick up the call.
