Militant killed in ongoing Karan Nagar gunfight: Police

A militant was killed on the second day in the ongoing firefight in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar on Tuesday, police said.
The firefight had erupted on Monday, after officials said that militants had tried to mount a Fidayeen attack on the CRPF installation in the area, housing the 23 battalion and CRPF Director General’s office.
In a tweet, DGP SP Vaid said a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba has been killed in the gunfight.
A CRPF trooper was killed and a policeman of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police injured in the gunfight yesterday.
Meanwhile, the area has been sealed by the police and paramilitary forces to prevent protests near the site of the gunfight.
Officials said the move has been taken as there are apprehensions that the protesters might try to disrupt the gunfight.
“We don’t want any civilian causality.  We have taken this as a precautionary measure,” said a higher official from the administration, wishing anonymity.
