KU delays doctoral programme for no reason

SRINAGAR: The sluggish approach of the Kashmir University towards research pursuits can be gauged by inordinate delay in issuing notifications. The candidates who have been shortlisted for pursuing doctoral research in pharmaceutical sciences are waiting for the release of notification of registration for more than a year’s time.
The students applied for pursuing PhD in May 2016 but the entrance examination was held in the month of February 2017, apparently due to 2016 uprising.
“We were expecting that results to be declared by the beginning of March as much time was wasted already but University declared our results in the month of May,” a candidate said.
The candidates say that the inaction on part of the university administration was the main reason for the delay. “Our admission process is still pending and we have nowhere to go. Selection of guides and every formality has already been completed,” another candidate said.
Interestingly, PhD programmes have been finalized for several departments. “We don’t know why our programme is not being finalised. We contacted the concerned officials but they appear to be clueless,” he said.
Faheem Aslam, public relations officer of the vice chancellor said the candidates must formally submit a representation so that the issue was taken up and resolved.
