Children’s cultural exchange programme held


The Jammu & Kashmir association of social workers (JKASW), organised children’s cultural exchange programme at Tagore Hall here. 
The organizers in a statement said around 150 children and their parents from different localities of Srinagar participated in the event.
The theme of the event was “Child Rights & Child Protection”. “The event was designed and hosted to provide an opportunity for children to display their hidden talents. The highlight of event was first half where 100 children showcased their talents through skits, puppet show, cultural activities highlighting children’s views, expressions, opinions, dreams and triumphs,” the statement said.  
Among others, Mission director ICPS J & K, GA SOFI, Justice Hasnain Masoodi, chairman Selection & Oversight Committee ICPS, J & K  were present in the function.
Journalists stage protest, demand release of Aasif Sultan
Srinagar, Sep 12: Kashmir Journalists Association (KJA) on Wednesday held a protest rally in Lal Chowk here in solidarity with journalist Asif Sultan.
KJA members gathered at Press Enclave on Wednesday afternoon and held a sit-in and later marched to Abi Guzar to press for immediate release of Sultan, currently lodged in central jail Srinagar.
The journalists’ body said international journalist and human rights bodies such as IFJ, CPJ, RSF and Amnesty International have already expressed their concern over “deteriorating” press freedom in the region. 
“Police authorities have been asking editors/reporters to explain their stories and the motive thereof. We appeal Governor Satya Pal Malik as well as home minister Rajnath Singh to intervene and stop this harassment against journalist community in the valley," said KJA spokesperson.
KJA said two journalists have been beaten up in north Kashmir yesterday while performing their professional duties.  KJA said Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar and DGP Dilbagh Singh should take note of the incident.
