Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Bemina area on City outskirts here on Tuesday against the killing of local youth who police said was a militant at Kud during shootout yesterday.
Scores of youths in the morning today took to streets in Bemina and staged protests against the killing of Tanveer Sultan, son of Sheikh Sultan, resident Ibrahim Colony. Tanveer according to police was killed in an exchange of fire with forces at Kud yesterday.
The youths staged protests against the killing amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. The protesters were demanding body of the slain which so far has not been handed over to the family. The protesters also pelted stones on civilian vehicles.
Police chased away the protesters and fired dozens of teargas shells towards protesters. The situation in the area remained tense throughout the day. (GNS)
