Islamia college emerged victorious in football
SRINAGAR: Gandhi Memorial College beat Government Degree College Bandipora by a huge margin of 123 runs in the summit clash of Inter College Cricket Tournament on Saturday played at Kashmir University grounnd.
GDC Bandipora skipper won the toss and invited GMC to bat first. The decision to bow, first backfired as GMC managed to score 255 runs in allotted 40 overs. Amir Asif Jeelani and adil Reshi scored 60, 51 and 48 runs respectively. Tajamul took two wickets for GDC Bandipora.
While chasing the target of 256 runs GDC Bandipora were bundled out for 133runs… Arif and Tajamul were top scorers with 29 and 20 runs respectively. From Gandhi Memorial College Imtiyaz took four wickets and Adil Reshi took 3 wickets.
Meanwhile The final match of Inter College Football Tournament was played between Islamia College and GDC Bandipora at Kashmir University.
Both teams displayed quality football throughout the game. The game ended goalless and the result of the match was decided in a tie breaker. It was Islamia College who came victorious in sudden death. Islamia College scored seven while GDC Bandipora scored 6 goals.
The coordinator of Directorate of physical education and sports Dr.Nisar Ahmed Khan was the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the participants. Addressing the gathering Dr. Nisar Ahmad congratulated both the teams for making it to the finals and was delighted to witness such a evenly contested final match in which at the end Islamia College emerged victorious, he mentioned.
Directorate will be conducting selection trials and coaching camp for North Zone Inter University Football Tournament from 9th Oct 2018 at Kashmir University. Both tournaments were organised by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports university of Kashmir.
