Hill Council Kargil fully committed to give impetus to promotion of winter sports

SRINAGAR:- Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Kargil Muhammad Amir inaugurated the 10th CEC Ice Hockey Rolling Cup 2018 at Ice Hockey Rink near Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium in Kargil on Monday.
On the inaugural day two matches were played. In the first match, Winter Sports Club Chiktan B defeated Wakha Mulbekh by 1 goal and the second match was won by United Drass by defeating Winter Sports Club Chiktan by 5 goals.
The acting CEC while speaking on the occasion said that Hill Council Kargil is fully committed to give impetus to the promotion of winter sports in the district and all out efforts are being made in this regard.
Amir said that considering the potential of Kargil as an ideal place for winter sports, apart from holding ice hockey tournaments, the Council is contemplating the introduction of figure skating, ice skating beside other winter sports in the district.
The acting CEC said that every possible help is being extended to the Ice Hockey associations and the players in the district so that they can prove their mettle not only at the district but the state, national as well as international level events.
Pertinently, the championship under the aegis of LAHDC Kargil is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports Kargil in collaboration with J&K Ice Hockey Association, Kargil Ice and Snow Sports Club and Himalayan Adventure Sports Drass. Eight teams from across the district are participating in the three-day sporting event.
Additional SP Kargil Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kargil Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma and Vice President J&K Ice Hockey Association Aga Syed Jamal were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
