Statements of Omar, Er Rasheed on Article 35-A irresponsible: KEA chairman

The chairman of traders’ body Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) Muhammad Yasin Khan on Thursday termed recent statements of mainstream politicians on Article 35-A which grants ‘special status’ to Jammu and Kashmir as “irresponsible”.
In a statement issued here, Khan took a dig at recent statements issued by former chief minister Omar Abdullah and independent legislator Er Rasheed.
Omar had recently said: “those out to defend Article 35-A were tacitly accepting that future of the state lies within the Constitution of India”. Saying Omar was behaving “irresponsibly”, Khan said at a time when everyone is striving for unity on the issue of safeguarding Article 35-A across all the regions of JK.
Lashing out at Rasheed, Khan said: "the lawmaker who supports plebiscite on Kashmir has failed to look at deadly fallouts of revocation of Article 35-A”.
“Let such voices be reminded that if Article 35-A is revoked, possibility of plebiscite as promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with UN resolutions will be over,” he said. Khan stressed on need of unity among people of all the three regions including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh on safeguarding Article 35-A.
“Let me remind my fellow people that Kashmir will no more be of Kashmiris, Ladakh no more of Ladakhis and Jammu no more of Jammuites as people from other states will legally snatch our identity if the Article 35-A is revoked,” he said.
