Shutdown in south Kashmir areas to mourn militant, civilian killings


A spontaneous shutdown is being observed today in parts of Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir to mourn the killings of three militants and two civilians.
Three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in an encounter with government forces in Arwani village of Anantnag district on Friday.
Two civilians were killed after forces opened fire on protesters marching towards the encounter site to help the militants escape.
A shutdown is being observed in Arwani village and several areas of Kulgam district, including Qaimoh, Yaripora and Khudwani – native place of slain Lashkar commander Junaid Mattoo.
