Shutdown in Soura, adjacent areas against killing of Eesa Fazili


Shutdown is being observed in Soura and adjoining areas in Ganderbal district on second consecutive day against the killing of militant Eesa Fazili in a gunfight yesterday.
Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in Ahmednagar, Soura, Buchpora, Umerhear, Pandach, Illahibagh and 90ft road.
Public transport remained off the roads in these areas while private vehicles plied normally in the area.
Markets in Ganderbal and Kangan towns also remained closed for the second day. The students of Degree College Ganderbal assembled outside the college gate and staged a protest.
At few spots in the Soura area, protestors clashed with government forces who responded by firing tear gas to disperse them.
Residents from the area said clashes erupted between protestors and forces at Sabzi Mandi Soura, while angry protestors also clashed with SSB men at Ahmednagar.
Fazili was killed along with two associates in a gunfight with the government forces in Hakoora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in the wee hours yesterday.
