Police register FIR over assault on magistrate in south Kashmir


Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday registered an FIR into the alleged thrashing of a magistrate by the army in southern Anantnag district.
Sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Duroo, Ghulam Rasool Wani, on Tuesday alleged that army men thrashed him along with four other officials and damaged his official vehicle near Ujroo area of Qazigund along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, when they were on way to attend an election related meeting.
According to Wani, he was on his way to Vesu to attend an election-related meeting with deputy commissioner Anantnag when army men “suddenly went berserk and even seized the poll material from us.”
SP Kulgam Gurandar Pal Singh confirmed to Greater Kashmir that a case has been registered into the incident.

A case FIR no 61 of 2019 under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) RPC has been registered in police station Qazigund, said another official.
The area falls in revenue district Anantnag but comes under the jurisdiction of Kulgam police.
