Mobile Internet shut in Shopian for 16th consecutive day

Mobile Internet services continued to remain shut in south Kashmir’s Shopian district for sixteenth straight day on Wednesday.
The residents said that both the broadband and mobile Internet services were blocked in the area on May 31 following a gunfight between militants and government forces in Pulwama.
While broadband service was restored a couple of days ago, the service on mobile phones continued to remain shut, they said.
Because of the blockade, rumours are doing rounds that the clampdown would remain in force for a period of three months. However, a top police official told Greater Kashmir that the mobile Internet service would be restored soon.
