Militants and the army exchanged fire in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday after the former attacked a patrolling party, reports said.
According to ANI news agency, militants attacked a patrolling party of the army in Hajin area of the district early morning. It said the army retaliated, resulting in a brief exchange of fire.
Soon, it said, searched were launched in the area. However, no contact was established.
The exchange of fire comes on the second day of unilateral ceasefire announced by the Home Ministry in the holy month of Ramadhan.
While the forces have been asked not to launch anti-militancy operations, they have been given the right to retaliate in case of an attack.
Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has rejected the ceasefire announcement by calling it a “drama”.
