Hundreds participate in funerals of 2 army men in Kupwara


Hundreds of people participated in the funeral of two army men of this district who were killed in a Fidayeen attack at Sunjuwan army camp in Jammu on Saturday. 
The body of 1st JAKLI Havaldar, Habibullah Qureshi, a resident of Batpora Hyhama here reached Zangli helipad today and was taken to his native village. Hundreds of people had gathered at the village to participate in funeral procession of slain army man.
Habibullah is survived by his pregnant wife, six daughters, aged parents, four sisters and a younger brother who is a student. “He (Habibullah) was the sole bread earner for his family. At the end of the day it is a Kashmiri who is getting killed,” said one of his relative, demanding an end to ongoing killings in Kashmir.
Earlier deputy commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir, SSP Shamshair Hussain and top army officer, in a cavalcade, brought Habibullah’s body to his home in Batpora village and later participated in wreath lying ceremony which was held with full military honour. Similarly hundreds of people participated in last rites of JCO Muhammad Ashraf Mir of Maidanpora Lolab amid emotional scenes. 
Mir is survived by two daughters, a son and elderly parents. His wreath laying ceremony was held at Maidanpora Lolab with full military honour which was attended by army and police officers from Lolab. 
Family members and villagers of the slain army personnel demanded end to “bloodshed” and urged India and Pakistan to start talks on Kashmir for resolution of the issue. “We appeal to India and Pakistan to stop the hostility,” they said.
