Five punt guns seized around Wular lake in north Kashmir


Five punt guns have been seized by wildlife authorities around Wular lake in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According to the officials of the Wildlife Hokersar Department, a drive was launched against poachers from September last year.
Wildlife Warden Hokersar, Abdul Rouf Zargar said: “We have seized five punt guns”.
Punt guns are usually custom-designed and vary widely. It has bore dilatometers exceeding 2 inches (51mm). In a single shot, it could hunt down up to six birds. More than two persons are required to lift the punt gun.
Punt guns were used in19th and early 20th centuries for shooting waterfowls.
Zargar said that an FIR has also been lodged in the case.
