BANDIPORA GUNFIGHT: Family members demand bodies of their militant sons


Family members of the five youth, killed in a gunfight with the forces in Bandipora last month, on Thursday demanded that bodies of their militant sons should be handed over to them so that they could bury  them at their ancestral graveyards.
Pertinently, on Sep 22 last month, Army claimed that it killed five non-local militants in a gunfight at Sumlar area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. However, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen after the gunfight maintained that all the five militants killed in the gunfight were locals. The outfit had identified the slain militants as Hyder Ali from Brazul Kulgam, Muhammad Umar from Shopian, Muhammad Sidiq from Bandipora, Mawiya from Kangan and Usman from Lolab.
The family members of these slain militants assembled here in Press Enclave here alleging that despite taking DNA samples, authorities are reluctant to handover the bodies to them. They said the bodies of militants have been buried at Sheri Baramulla. “For the past two weeks we have been wandering from pillar to post to take the possession of the bodies of our beloved sons, but authorities are using dilly dally tactics,” Abdul Khaliq Lone from Kangan Pulwama said.
The family members said that after meeting both deputy commissioners of Bandipora and Baramulla, DNA samples were taken for identification of the bodies. “It has been over two weeks and yet there is no word from authorities,” they said.
