India Pakistan trade fire along Line of Control

The armies of India and Pakistan traded heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday.

Sources said that Pakistani army resorted to massive shelling in Saujiyan, Sajwan and Gagrain sectors of the district around midnight.


They said that a woman was injured due to shelling in Qasba Shahpur. She was hospitalized.

In Saujiyan, a shell landed just outside a police station, damaging its roof, they said.

"Pakistani Army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 2300 hours yesterday along the Line of Control (LC) in Poonch sector", a defence spokesperson said.

He said the Indian Army is retaliating strongly and effectively. The firing is presently on, he added.

Reports of mortar shelling have also been received from Mankote area of Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar.

Sources said that intense shelling is going on in the KG sector since 9 am.

“Mortar shells have landed in populated areas,” said a local.

A police officer said that ambulances have been rushed to the spot. However, there was no immediate report of any casualties.
