Principal SKIMS Medical College resigns in protest

Principal SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, Dr Reyaz Ahmed Untoo resigned from the position on Friday in protest after government issued advertisement for the post today.
Dr Untoo, who was appointed as Principal SKIMS Medical College Srinagar in July last year has sent a letter of resignation to the administration. The resignation letter sent to Director SKIMS Soura, and copied to Chief Secretary and Chairperson Governing Body SKIMS has clearly specified that the reason for stepping down as the move of the SKIMS administration to advertise the post. The SKIMS on Friday evening uploaded advertisement Notice (No.03 of 2017), dated June 8, 2017 for the post of Principal SKIMS Medical College.
In the resignation letter, Dr Untoo has written, “The undersigned feels that the administration has no faith and trust in my working.”
Dr Untoo has written that the proof of administration’s lack of faith in his abilities as administrator was clear as the post of the Principal was advertised. He has requested that he may be relieved of the charge of the principal and necessary alternate arrangements be made.
While speaking to Greater Kashmir, Dr Untoo said, “If you are working on a post and if your boss advertises that post, it means they want to tell you that you are not satisfying their requirement.”
He said that he would not want to be an “obstacle” in the process that they (administration) have initiated.
Dr Untoo was appointed Principal SKIMS MC by a government order 397-HME of 2016 on July 8 2016, at a time when the college was facing a slash of 50 MBBS seats by MCI due to its gross deficiencies in infrastructure. However, over the past one year, MCI has reportedly softened its stand after the college started process of upgrading infrastructure and addressing shortfalls pointed out by MCI.
Recently, SKIMS medical college was able to secure an increase of 19 PG seats from Medical Council of India, after the college administration sent detailed proposals and marked “personal attendance” by for the purpose of satisfying the criteria laid down for the enhancement.
