MR vaccination campaign: 2656 children vaccinated in Rajouri, 1118 in Poonch


As many as 3774 children, between the age group of 9 month to 15 year, were vaccinated in Rajouri and Poonch districts on Thursday, under the nationwide Measles Rubella vaccination programme.
As per the Health department, 2656 children were vaccinated in Rajouri district on Thursday. The maximum number was observed in Nowshera, where a total of 905 children were administered with the vaccinated.
“Different camps were held on Thursday in several areas of Rajouri district. Teams vaccinated children in all six blocks, especially in education institutions,” an official said.
District immunization officer Rajouri Dr Anees Nabi also visited some camps and took stock of the vaccination programme.
Meanwhile, in Poonch district, 1118 children were vaccinated on Thursday. As per the department, several camps were organized across the district, in some educational institutions as well as Madarssas. In one such camp, convened at Madrasa Qasam Al Uloom located in Seri Khawaja village of Surankote, more than 75 kids were vaccinated.
Deputy chief medical officer Poonch Dr Shamim Bhatti also visited several camps and took stock of the campaign.
On the other hand, additional deputy commissioner Kotranka Ved Parkash expressed anguish over some unscrupulous elements spreading rumors regarding the vaccination. Speaking at a meeting attended by in-charge of schools, head-masters, nodal teachers and doctors, he said that some anti-social elements are misleading people.
Dispelling their doubts, the ADC said, “The scheme is an initiative of the central government, in association with the World Health Organisation, and aims to eradicate measles among children. It is part of the government’s ambitious vaccination programme and people need to come forward in getting their children vaccinated.”
Meanwhile, officials of the Health department claimed that the impact of rumours was minimal and efforts were afoot to bring the campaign back on track.
Those present at the meeting included tehsildar Kotranka Imtyaz Choudhury, block medical officer Dr Iqbal Malik, Mohammad Ayoub Lone, community health officer, principals of JNV Kotranka, HSS Kotranka and HSS Kandi, ZEO Kotranka and other officers.
