In solidarity with Kashmir colleagues, Jammu junior doctors go on 2-day strike

Seeking reinstatement of their 25 terminated counterparts in the Government Medical College, Srinagar, the resident doctors at GMC, Jammu have announced two-day strike on Wednesday.
The resident doctors of the twin medical colleges of the state have been demanding since long removal of pay anomaly, proper security arrangements during the duty hours and canteen facility within the campus among other things.
“We’ve initially decided to suspend the OPD and ward services for two days at the medical college and associated hospitals to press the government to reinstate our colleagues in Kashmir and remove our pay disparity. In case the terminated resident doctors of Srinagar are not reinstated in two days, we will stop the emergency services at all the hospitals and only the government will be responsible for the consequences,” Dr Sourav Katoch, president Resident Doctors Association of Jammu told Greater Kashmir.
Sourav said that there are around 300 resident doctors delivering various emergency services at GMC, Jammu and its associated hospitals and same is the number of resident doctors in Kashmir valley hospitals.
He further said that highest numbers of Amarnath yatris are visiting GMC Jammu “and if our demands are not met, we will also stop attending the yatris at emergency as well.”
He said that the former health and medical education minister, Dr Devender Kumar Manyal had agreed to address most of their issues including removal of pay disparity by July 1, but due to imposition of Governor Rule in the state, the same could not be done.
“Now, we request the Governor NN Vohra administration to reinstate our colleagues and look into our issues at the earliest otherwise the government will be responsible for the consequences,” he said.
In Kashmir division, all the resident doctors resigned en masse on Tuesday after the GMC Srinagar administration terminated 25 of their colleagues.
