GMC orders inquiry into IUD at LD Hospital

The Government Medical College has ordered an investigation into the causes of Intra Uterus Death (IUD) of the fetus of a patient due to alleged due medical negligence at LD Hospital here.
As per an official order a five-member committee headed by HoD Gynae & Obstetrics has been constituted to ascertain and investigate into the cause of IUD of a patient admitted in Lala Ded hospital under MRD No 4401 (Thursday Unit).
The committee would look into the circumstances leading to the cause of IUD and shifting of patient from Lala Ded to SMHS without informing the concerned head of the unit and Medical Superintendent of concerned hospital,” reads the order issued by GMC Principal Dr Samia Rashid.
Other members of the committee include Head Department of Anesthesiology, Head of Thursday Unit at LD Hospital, Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital and Medical Superintendent LD Hospital.
As per the order PS/MC/17/392-96 dated 25-05-2017, the committee has been directed to submit a detailed report, “fixing responsibility for taking further appropriate necessary action” within two days.
The inquiry follows a formal complaint lodged by Rouf Ahmed Bhat, husband of Asifa, who was admitted at LD Hospital. As per the complaint submitted to MS Lal Ded Hospital, the family has sought “answers” as to why the patient, who was reportedly to deliver on May 27, 2017 was shifted out of the hospital where she was being monitored. “The travel and the unattended stay at SMHS Hospital led to the death of the baby,” alleged the complaint.
Dr Samia said that “only an inquiry could bring the facts to light”.
“We have constituted a holistic committee superseding an earlier committee constituted at LD Hospital. We will try to ascertain everything related to the case,” she said.
