Doctors and paramedical staff of sub-district hospital Shopian on Monday held a sit-in at the institute to protest against the reported firing at the hospital by government forces Sunday night.
The doctors met the deputy commissioner Shopian and presented a memorandum to him, seeking an investigation into the incident.
The doctors told the DC that government forces resorted to unprovoked firing inside the hospital premises on Sunday night.
Witnesses said that government forces fired bullets into the casualty block and the blood bank following a heated argument with a doctor.
Dozens of injured people were rushed to the hospital following Sunday clashes in the Shopian district.
When contacted, deputy commissioner Shopian, Gazanffar Ali, told Greater Kashmir, “After meeting the doctors I have informed the divisional commissioner Kashmir who has taken serious note of this incident. We have started investigations to take strict action against those who are involved.”
“It is unfortunate that firing took place inside the hospital premises,” the DC rued.
