DH Rajouri faces staff shortage, ICU ward non-functional

Despite months after setting up a separate Instant Care Unit (ICU) ward in the local District Hospital (DH), the Health Department has been unable to make the ward functional, allegedly due to lack of trained staff and requisite machinery equipments.
The locals have demanded the Health Ministry to immediately issue funds and depute staff to make the ward functional.
According to sources, about 3-4 months ago, a separate ICU ward was set up by the hospital administration to treat patients on ventilators.
"The ICU couldn’t be made functional due to lack of trained staff," a source said. He added that the authorities have not provided the requisite machinery and equipments, which is another cause for the delay.
Sources also said that the hospital administration has tried to ask the concerned authorities to release the necessary funds and post trained staff at an earliest, but there has not been anything done yet.
The Official Spokesman of the local District Administration informed that the matter has been taken up with higher authorities and a team of health department, on directions of the Chief Minister, recently visited the DH. They assessed the requirements to make the ICU functional and positive results are expected in a week, he added.
He also confirmed that lack of trained staff and delay in machinery and equipments is the cause for the delay.
