The leading travel magazine Lonely Planet has ranked Jammu and Kashmir as the “best romantic” destination in India.
The famous couplet by Sufi mystic Amir Khusro “Agar Firdaus Bar Roo e Zameen Ast, Hameen Ast-o, Hameen Ast o Hameen Ast” needs no explanation.
The couplet aptly describes the beauty and romance of Kashmir that has been ranked as the world’s second most romantic destination, only next to Switzerland.
Kashmir even after all the unrest within, has embraced heaven on earth ever since. The lush landscape of Kashmir manages to steal hearts of any being on the face of this earth.
The title comes as sweet reward to the lovely land of Kashmir and the tourists who visit the Valley say “it is the romance in Kashmir’s air which keeps bringing them back”.
Shikara boats to cruise Srinagar’s Dal Lake are one of the major attractions and set a picture perfect romance for those who come with their beloved. The tourism of Kashmir didn’t take a back seat, even with all the perceptions of unrest in the valley.
Notably, some the romantic scenes of Bollywood movies Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Rockstar, Student of the Year, Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani and Haider have been shot in Kashmir to make them look real, literally!
